GRAND VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY: GVSU public health researchers conduct student wellness survey on impact of COVID-19

Circle

Grand Valley State University issued the following announcement on July 13.

Grand Valley researchers are seeking to learn more about the impact of COVID-19 on student wellness, in hopes of offering enhanced resources throughout the university.

GVSU's Department of Public Health, in collaboration with Recreation and Wellness, is conducting a research study of more than 17,000 students.

Ranelle Brew, chair and associate professor of public health, said on July 1 the surveys were emailed to students who were enrolled at Grand Valley during the Winter 2020 semester.

She said the survey, designed to inquire about students' eight wellness dimensions, includes questions on physical, emotional, social, financial, environmental, occupational, spiritual and intellectual health.

"It is important to learn how our students have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic in relation to overall health and wellness," said Brew. "The survey will provide evidence-based data that can help enhance university resources for students, and will serve as a valuable tool for future decision making."

Brew said survey results will also add to a growing body of peer-reviewed literature and information to better understand and respond to the health and wellness needs of all college students.

The anonymous survey takes about 10-20 minutes to complete; the survey closes Thursday, July 16.
