DO YOUR PART & CLEAN UP AFTER YOUR PET

Dogs028

City of Grandville issued the following announcement on Sept 2.

For your convenience the City of Grandville has placed several pet waste bag dispensers throughout the city parks and trails. There are also trash cans along the trails and in the parks where used waste bags can be tossed. Pet owners must be prepared with their own waste bags to clean up after their dog if they are walking in an area where dispensers are not available.

Picking up your pet’s waste is not just a courtesy for those walking behind you, it’s the healthy and environmentally sound thing to do. In Grandville, it is required by city ordinance. A person who violates the requirements of this provision may be subject to a civil infraction and required to pay a civil fine.

BELOW ARE SOME EASY WAYS FOR DEALING WITH YOUR PET’S WASTE:

• Always carry a plastic bag when you walk your dog. Reusing an old newspaper delivery bag or plastic

grocery bag works well. To avoid unpleasant surprises, check the bag for holes before your pet’s walk!

• Use the bag as a glove to pick up the pet waste. Turn the bag inside out around the waste, scoop it up,

seal the bag, and dispose of it in a trashcan. You may also flush un-bagged pet waste down the toilet.

• Never place bagged or un-bagged pet waste in a storm drain or hose pet waste towards storm drains as

they drain directly to streams, rivers and lakes.

• Remove waste from areas where children play or where gardens are planted.

• Wash your hands with warm, soapy water after dealing with pet waste!
