City of Saugatuck issued the following announcement on Nov 2.
The Kalamazoo Lake Sewer and Water Authority has contracted with Plummer's Environmental Services, Inc. to perform sewer cleaning and televising of the public sewer system for the sewer mains, as seen on the map in red below. Most of the cleaning and televising is in Saugatuck this year with nominal activity in Douglas, except near Mariner’s Cove on Ferry St. This activity is occurring for the week of November 1st and November 8th.
This activity may create gurgling sounds from sewer lines or toilets which may surprise some residents. Residents may wish to keep their toilet seats closed.
When you hear the gurgling sounds, it will mean that the work is being performed in your immediate vicinity and you should avoid flushing toilets until the sound subsides. Typically, the work and resulting gurgling sounds will last 1-2 minutes in your immediate area where your sewer line connects to the public sewer system.
The work is necessary to assess and identify the sewer infrastructure for defects; to remove tree roots that cause sewer back-ups; and to remove grease accumulations that cause sewer back-ups.
