City of Wayland Fire Department issued the following announcement on Dec 14.
City of Wayland & Yankee Springs Fire Departments are HIRING!
We are seeking members of our community who are interested in becoming firefighters for the Wayland and Yankee Springs Fire Departments. Our firefighters take pride in serving our community and we are hiring those who would like to join us in making a difference.
These are paid-on call positions. Our firefighters are paid per hour for each call, and also paid for department trainings. Hours are based on availability to respond to calls for service.
No experience is necessary. We will provide all training, equipment, and all new firefighters will be sponsored to attend a fire academy, which is held on evenings and weekends.
Fires make up a small portion of our calls for service. Our firefighters are trained to respond to all emergencies; such as vehicle accidents, fire alarms, water/ice rescues, CPR/medical emergencies, and any other situation where citizens need our help 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Applicants must be 18 years or older, have a valid drivers license, and reside in the City of Wayland, Wayland or Yankee Springs Townships.
We welcome any questions and conversations about what it takes to be a paid-on call firefighter. If you have any question, or would like an application, Firefighter/EMT Jeff Smith can be contacted at the Wayland Fire Department (269)792-6300, Monday-Friday from 8:00AM-4:00PM, and Deputy Chief Dan Miller can be contacted at the Yankee Springs Fire Department (269)795-1650, Monday-Friday from 8:00AM-5:00PM. Also feel free to stop by the station to talk further, we enjoy having these conversations and the coffee is always on.
