Department of Public Works - SNOW REMOVAL PRIORITIES

City of Grandville recently issued the following announcement.

Department of Public Works

SNOW REMOVAL PRIORITIES

The City of Grandville Public Works Department is comprised of skilled professionals and is supported by a collection of talented, long-serving employees and well trained seasonal help. One of the most active programs this time of year is snow removal.

Primary streets are plowed first, followed by secondary streets.

The first priority is to clear the emergency snow routes and other main collector streets which connect major sections of the city. The goal is to provide access first for emergency fire, police, medical services, schools and commercial businesses or area bus routes.

The second priority is residential streets. Cul-de-sacs are plowed last. The city will clean snow within the confines of curb line to curb line of a street. This priority system keeps the roads open that serve the greatest number of people.

Snow from a private driveway may not be placed on or pushed into or across a city street. Snow from a private driveway must remain on that property. The Public Works Department does not clear driveways and cannot avoid throwing snow back into your driveway when they are clearing streets.

Removal of this snow is the responsibility of the property owner.

All sidewalks are the responsibility of the property owner. The city sidewalk plow operates on most major street sidewalks and school routes as time permits. Please remember to place your trash container between the sidewalk and the curb, not in the street or on the sidewalk.

We salt all major streets, intersections and other areas as needed. As always, we try to keep the residents safe while being mindful of continued cost control and the environmental effects of salt.

Delays in getting side streets plowed due to significant snowfall or back to back storms can be very frustrating for residents, but is largely out of our control. Please realize that we are doing our very best to make the streets clear and safe as soon as possible.
