City of Hudsonville issued the following announcement on Jan 7.
Due to a City Commission appointment, we have a vacancy on our Board of Review. This board hears protests of assessment as related to the market value of property and to correct clerical errors and mutual mistakes of face on the assessment roll. Members serve a 3-year term and are compensated for meetings. The selected applicant would be filling a term that ends 6/30/23; with the hope of continuing to serve for at least another term.
Typical time commitment for this board consists of:
• Required training in January/February (3 hours every other year)
• March: Organizational meeting (1 hour beginning at 8:30am); Taxpayer Appeals (12 hours over two days, typically 3pm to 9pm but can vary in schedule.)
• July: Corrections meeting (1.5 hours beginning at 8:30am)
• December: Corrections meeting (1.5 hours beginning at 8:30am)
Annual dates for these meetings vary by law.
Board of Review members MUST be City residents. Experience and/or training in matters related to real estate, including banking/finance, property appraisal/assessing, real estate development (residential/commercial builders) or real estate law, is helpful but not necessary.
