City hired Abonmarche to do a full warrant study

The traffic signal at 5th & Washington has been switched to a blinking red in anticipation of grant-funded removal later this year. The City hired Abonmarche to do a full warrant study (this is the study done to see if the intersection “warrants” a given level of active traffic control). It will be a four way stop going forward, identical to the intersections at 1st, 2nd and 3rd Streets.

The project will cost $54,500, with $50,000 coming from a State of Michigan grant. The final work will be done in the fall of 2022 or spring of 2023; we get excellent pricing when we give private contractors a wide window to work with, and the four way flashing red is sufficient to carry us through until the signals are removed and the stop signs are installed.
