The (Anti) Racism Task Force and the Michigan State University Extension will be providing understanding perspectives training led by a diversity, equity, and inclusion specialist. The in-person training will be provided on Monday, January 23 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Momentum Center, 714 Columbus Ave. in Grand Haven.
Presenter Dionardo Pizaña is the diversity, equity and inclusion specialist for Michigan State University Extension. He has over 30 years of experience developing, teaching, and facilitating diversity education programs, curriculum and community-based efforts across the state of MI and the country. As a member of the administrative leadership team, he provides direction, support, and guidance for MSU Extension’s DEI commitments.
“Bias, whether unconscious or implicit, can be a barrier to creating and supporting environments and processes, which are diverse, inclusive and equitable. As committed as one may be to nurturing inclusivity in our relationships and our work, brain research supports that bias is embedded in the way that our brains process information,” said presenter Pizaña. “Join us to build your awareness of bias, how it can negatively impact your relationships and work spaces, along with identifying what can be done differently.”
Registration is available online at www.MomentumCenterGH.org/implicit-bias-training and is limited to the first 35 people who register.
“Thanks to collaborations and regional support, we are excited to provide this critical training at no cost to the community,” said Momentum Center’s director, Barbara Lee VanHorrsen.
