ALLENDALE, MICH. – Two GVSU women's lacrosse players have been named College Sports Communicators Academic All-Americans. Kaylyn Cater and Aislynn Alkire earned the honors, with Cater being named to the Second-Team and Alkire to the Third-Team.
Cater's junior season was notable as she ranked third in the nation with a .512 save percentage and led in goals allowed per game at 4.99. She recorded 83 saves, 16 groundballs, and secured 15 wins for the Lakers. Cater also achieved her 100th career save this season. She was recognized as an IWLCA Third-Team All-American, USA Lacrosse Magazine Honorable Mention All-American, IWLCA First-Team All-Region, and GLIAC Goalkeeper of the Year. Academically, Cater has maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.96 while pursuing a degree in Psychology.
Alkire played a significant role in the team's defense by forcing 29 turnovers and collecting 40 groundballs. Additionally, she had 11 draw controls and was honored as GLIAC Defender of the Year alongside her first IWLCA All-American selection. Alkire also received recognition as USA Lacrosse Magazine Second-Team All-American and IWLCA Second-Team All-Region. Her performance included multiple groundball pickups in 12 games and causing two or more turnovers on nine occasions. Alkire graduated with degrees in Business Economics and Marketing, maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.86.
To be named CSC Academic All-American, student-athletes must achieve a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher, participate in at least 90% of their team's games, and earn Academic All-District honors first. Following this distinction, they are considered for national voting by athletic communications members for the final selection to the All-American team.
