Grand Valley State men's golfer Drew Coble has been named a College Sports Communicators First-Team Academic All-American, as announced by the organization earlier this afternoon.
In his fifth year at Grand Valley State University (GVSU), senior golfer Drew Coble had the best season of his career. Coble earned his first All-American honor, receiving First-Team honors from PING and the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). He became the eighth player in program history to be named an All-American, securing the program's 10th total All-American honor. This year, Coble was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Golfer of the Year and received PING All-Region recognition. In 13 tournaments, he achieved three wins and five additional top-10 finishes. Coble triumphed at the Folds of Honor Challenge, the Lander Bearcat Classic, and the Ralph Hargett Memorial Invitational. The Lake Orion native was one of five finalists for the Jack Nicklaus Division II Player of the Year award. He shot 29 rounds of par or better, recording 15 rounds in the 60s with a low round of 67. As a graduate student in Communications, Coble maintained a 3.76 GPA and was a member of the GLIAC Academic Excellence team and earned a GLIAC Commissioner's Award.
To earn CSC Academic All-American distinction, student-athletes must achieve a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher, appear in 90% of their team's games, and earn Academic All-District honors. Once selected to the All-District team, athletes are placed in a pool where athletic communications members nationwide vote for the All-American team.
