The No. 7 Grand Valley State women's soccer team defeated Cedarville 1-0 on Saturday afternoon at the GVSU Soccer Field. The Lakers improve to 2-0 on the season, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 0-1-1.

GVSU dominated possession early in the first half and opened the scoring in the sixth minute off the foot of Ryann Fetty. Taylor Reid crossed a ball from the right side of the box for Fetty, who had a wide-open net in the middle of the box.

The Laker defense did not allow Cedarville to record a shot on goal. GVSU outshot Cedarville 11-4 with five shots on goal from five different players.

Fetty led the Lakers with the game-winning goal off two shots. Reid added an assist and notched two shots with one on goal. Kennedy Bearden, Alli French, and Kendall Aikens each had one shot on goal. Daan Louwerse, Mackenzie Ford, and Kacy Lauer played all 90 minutes of action. Cailynn Junk got the start in goal for GVSU and earned her career win and shutout as a Laker.

GVSU will hit the road next week for a pair of nonconference matchups. The Lakers will travel to Missouri to face Northwest Missouri State on Friday at 5:00 PM before facing No. 21 Central Missouri on Sunday at 2:00 PM.
