GVSU men's golf team starts strong at Folds of Honor Collegiate

The GVSU men's golf team commenced their season at the Folds of Honor Collegiate in Grand Haven, Michigan. Despite being the only Division II team among 15 competitors, the Lakers finished the first round in sixth place.

Leading by 11 strokes is Alabama, concluding the round at nine under par. Illinois, the reigning Folds of Honor Champion, is in second place at two over par. Notre Dame, Texas, and Michigan State share third place at three over par. GVSU stands in sixth place at nine over par.

Drew Coble leads the Lakers with a tie for third place after shooting a round of 69 (-2), which included five birdies. Bryce Wheeler is tied for 27th at three over par with a round of 74 and three birdies. Manuel Cue Vargas and Andrew Gwilliams are tied for 36th with rounds of 75 (+3), each making one birdie. Charlie Cooley shot a round of 78 (+7) with two birdies, finishing in a tie for 51st.

The Lakers will tee off early tomorrow morning at 7:33 AM alongside Notre Dame and Alabama.
