Grand Valley State women's soccer team heads to Missouri for nonconference games

The No. 2 Grand Valley State women's soccer team will travel to Missouri for their first road games of the season, facing Northwest Missouri State on Friday, September 13 at 5:00 PM and No. 4 Central Missouri on Sunday, September 15 at 2:00 PM.

GVSU began the 2024 season with two home victories, defeating No. 9 Ashland and Cedarville by identical scores of 1-0. Mackenzie Ford was recognized as the GLIAC defensive player of the week for her role in securing both shutouts, playing all 90 minutes in each match and allowing just one shot on goal.

Emma Chudik scored the decisive goal against Ashland with an assist from Sarah Fromm, while Ryann Fetty netted the game-winner against Cedarville assisted by Taylor Reid. Fetty led the Lakers with four shots over the two games.

Goalkeeper Isabel Imes recorded her first win and shutout of the season against Ashland with one save. Cailynn Junk earned her first career win and shutout in the victory over Cedarville.

Northwest Missouri State holds a record of 1-1-1 entering Friday's game, having secured their first win of the season on Tuesday, September 10 with a 3-1 victory over Southwest Baptist. Ekaterina Theoharidis leads the Bearcats with three goals and two assists across three games, scoring in each match and tallying ten shots with seven on target. Ximena Arnau has contributed two goals, including the game-winner against Southwest Baptist.

Central Missouri is ranked fourth in the latest United Soccer Coaches national poll and has started their season with wins over Augustana and Illinois-Springfield. The Jennies will play No. 15 Minnesota State before facing GVSU on Sunday. Caroline Cole leads Central Missouri with three goals and one assist, scoring twice against Augustana and adding another goal and assist versus Illinois-Springfield. Mikayla Ernst has also scored twice this season.
