Grand Valley State women's soccer team draws against Northwest Missouri State

The No. 2 Grand Valley State women's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw at Northwest Missouri State on Friday evening. The Lakers now hold a record of 2-0-1 for the season, while the Bearcats stand at 1-1-2.

GVSU initiated their offensive efforts early with shots on goal by Sophia Morgan in the third minute and Kennedy Bearden in the seventh minute, both saved by the Bearcat keeper. Northwest Missouri State took an early lead in the 14th minute.

The Lakers responded swiftly three minutes later when Alli French scored her first goal of the season, assisted by Bearden, tying the game at one. GVSU continued to pressure with two more shots on goal before halftime, but both were stopped by the keeper.

In the second half, GVSU earned a corner kick in the 47th minute leading to a near miss by Bearden. Another corner two minutes later resulted in a shot that went just left of the goal. Despite seven additional shots on goal from GVSU, key saves by the Bearcat keeper maintained the 1-1 draw.

The Lakers outshot Northwest Missouri State 22-8 overall and 13-4 on goal. They also held a 10-7 advantage in corner kicks.

Kennedy Bearden led GVSU with five shots and two on goal while providing her first assist of the season. Alli French scored for GVSU on four shots with two on goal. Amma Chudik contributed three shots with two on target. Mackenzie Ford and Kacy Lauer each played all 90 minutes of action, with Ford having played every minute of each game so far this season. Cailynn Junk started as goalkeeper for GVSU and made three saves.

GVSU will complete their road trip in Missouri on Sunday when they face No. 4 Central Missouri in Warrensburg at 2:00 PM ET.
