GVSU men's golf team ranks fifth after first day at Folds of Honor Challenge

The GVSU men's golf team competed at the Meadows in Allendale, Michigan, participating in the Folds of Honor Challenge. After the opening round, the Lakers are positioned fifth.

Aurora leads with a score of 285, finishing one over par. Mississippi Gulf Community College follows in second place at +4, while West Texas A&M is third at eight over. Illinois Wesleyan stands fourth with a score of +12, closely followed by GVSU at +13.

Drew Coble emerged as the top golfer for the Lakers, tying for ninth place after shooting a round of 72 (+1) and making four birdies over 18 holes. Andrew Gwilliams is tied for 12th after scoring six birdies in his round of 73 (+2). Charlie Cooley and Manuel Cue Vargas both ended their rounds tied for 19th with scores of 76 (+5), with Cooley making three birdies. Jan Eckhard, in his first appearance as a Laker, is tied for 22nd after carding a round of 77 (+6) and one birdie. Bryce Wheeler also made one birdie and finished tied for 29th at +8. Murphy Kehoe concluded his round tied for 32nd with an overall score of 80 (+9), achieving an eagle and a birdie.

GVSU will commence the second round tomorrow morning at 9:30.
