The GVSU women's golf team narrowly missed victory at the Folds of Honor Challenge, held in Allendale, Michigan. Despite leading going into the final round and shooting their best round of the tournament, they were overtaken by Findlay and finished as the runner-up.
Findlay shot a final round of 290 to make up three strokes on the Lakers and secure first place. GVSU was two shots back after carding a final round of 293. Ferris State placed third, 18 strokes behind GVSU, while West Texas A&M came in fourth. Oklahoma City finished fifth and Lincoln sixth.
Four Lakers finished in the top 10, led by Olivia Stoll who earned runner-up accolades. Paula Badino secured fifth place, while Megan Miron and Rachael Krieger tied for eighth. Stoll carded a final round of 71 (-1), making two birdies to end at three over par. Badino made a birdie in her round of 74 (+3) to finish nine over par. Kreiger made one birdie, with Miron sinking four as they both ended at +15. Charlotte Goersch placed 14th at +19 with a final round of 74 that included one birdie. Evelyn Park also made one birdie as she carded a 79 (+8) to finish at +24. Julia Sanchez shot a 77 (+6) with one birdie in her final round.
GVSU will return to competition this Sunday and Monday in East Lansing at the Mary Fossum Invitational.
