GVSU men's golf team wins Folds of Honor Challenge

ALLENDALE, MICH. – For the third consecutive year, the Folds of Honor Challenge was played at the Meadows Golf Course, and for the third consecutive year, the GVSU men's golf team emerged victorious. The Lakers surpassed two other teams to top the leaderboard during the final round of play.

The win qualifies the Lakers for the 2025 Folds of Honor Collegiate at American Dunes Golf Course in Grand Haven. The 2025 edition will mark the fourth straight year that the Lakers participate in this tournament.

The Lakers shot a final round of 281 (-3) to jump from third into the lead throughout the final round. They finished at +10, two strokes ahead of Aurora, who led heading into today. Mississippi Gulf Coast finished third at sixteen over, followed by Illinois Wesleyan in fourth at +19. Odessa ended fifth at twenty-nine over par.

Three Lakers finished inside the top 10: Drew Coble as runner-up, Charlie Cooley in eighth place, and Manuel Cue Vargas tied for ninth. Coble carded a final round of 69 (-2) with four birdies, ending at -4. Cooley was five over following his round of 71 (E), sinking four birdies. Cue made one birdie in his round of 73 (+2), finishing six over. Bryce Wheeler shot his best round of the tournament with five birdies to score a 68 (-3), finishing nine over in a tie for 16th place. Andrew Gwilliams ended in 18th place with a final round of 75 (+4) and one birdie to finish ten over. Murphy Kehoe tied for 29th place at +16 with three birdies in his final round of 74 (+3). Jan Eckhard tied for 32nd place at +17 with four birdies in his round of 78 (+7).

The Lakers are back in action next week at the DII National Preview Meet in Palm Beach Garden, Florida. They will compete next Monday and Tuesday at PGA National.
