Grand Valley State University (GVSU) is set to host Wisconsin-La Crosse in the annual Family Day game on Saturday. The matchup will take place at Lubbers Stadium with a kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m. Both teams enter the game undefeated, with GVSU coming off a narrow 24-21 victory over Colorado State-Pueblo and Wisconsin-La Crosse securing a 35-21 win against Northern Michigan.

In their recent game, GVSU built a substantial lead by halftime but faced challenges in the fourth quarter due to penalties. Quarterback Avery Moore completed 13 of 21 passes for 155 yards and also contributed on the ground with 66 rushing yards. Running back Khalil Eichelberger added 94 rushing yards, while David Holloman chipped in with seven carries for 49 yards. Safety Kobe Hayward led the defense with eight tackles, and Niles King recorded six tackles along with multiple tackles for loss and quarterback sacks.

GVSU has maintained its ranking in every AFCA Coaches' poll since September 2015, marking a streak of 100 consecutive weeks. The team boasts an impressive record as the winningest program across FBS, FCS, and Division II levels.

The Lakers have consistently led NCAA attendance figures, drawing significant crowds to their games. Last season, they topped national attendance charts both in total numbers and average per game over eight home dates.

Historically, GVSU has performed well against ranked teams and has achieved double-digit wins in numerous seasons since its inception. The program has won four national championships and made several NCAA championship appearances.

Statistically, GVSU's offense has been effective in third-down conversions and red zone efficiency early this season. Defensively, they have limited opponents' success on third downs significantly.

Individually, several players have stood out this season:

- Punter Trace Hrgich was named GLIAC Special Teams Player of the Week.

- Running backs Khalil Eichelberger, Kenneth Jones, Derrick Woods, and Paschal Jolman each had notable performances against Central State.

- Quarterback Avery Moore has shown dual-threat capabilities.

- Place kicker Mathew Bacik set a freshman record with his field goal performance.

- Defensive players like Anthony Cardamone and Jake Urban have made significant contributions.

As GVSU prepares for its upcoming contest against Wisconsin-La Crosse, it aims to continue its strong start to the season while maintaining its historical success both on the field and in fan engagement.
