The No. 1 Grand Valley State women's soccer team secured a 2-1 road victory against Michigan Tech on Sunday, September 22. This win advances the Lakers to a season record of 5-0-1 and a GLIAC record of 2-0, while the Huskies drop to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the GLIAC.

Michigan Tech initiated the scoring in the 11th minute, taking an early lead. GVSU equalized in the 34th minute with Kennedy Bearden scoring her first goal of the season, assisted by Emma Chudik. Bearden's shot bypassed the goalkeeper into the bottom right corner of the goal.

In the first half, GVSU outshot Michigan Tech 7-4. The Lakers quickly took control in the second half with a go-ahead goal just 20 seconds in. Taylor Reid's cross was initially deflected by a Huskie defender, but Bearden capitalized on the opportunity to score her second goal.

Michigan Tech attempted to respond, but GVSU goalkeeper Cailynn Junk made crucial saves in both the 47th and 50th minutes. Junk finished with five saves for the game, maintaining her undefeated record at 4-0-1 this season. The Laker defense did not allow any further shots on goal, securing their victory.

Both teams recorded an equal number of shots at 11 each. Kennedy Bearden led GVSU with two goals from two shots. Alli French had two shots with one on target, while Kacy Lauer contributed one shot on goal and played all 90 minutes for the fifth consecutive game. Daan Louwerse, Alex Williams, and Danielle Aitken also played full matches.

GVSU will continue its conference schedule next week against Saginaw Valley State on Friday, September 27. The match is set to begin at 1:00 PM in University Center, Michigan. For live video and stats links, visit gvsulakers.com and follow @GVSUSoccer on Twitter for live updates.
