The Grand Valley State men's tennis team participated in the ITA Midwest Regional tournament at Davenport University last weekend. Victor Lopes and Lucas Gonzalez secured the Doubles Flight A championship on Monday, September 30, earning a spot in the ITA Cup.
Lopes and Gonzalez achieved a perfect 5-0 record in doubles play to win the top doubles bracket championship, with scores of 6-4, 6-4 in the final match. This victory makes them the first men in Laker tennis history to qualify for the ITA Cup, which will be held in Rome, Georgia from October 10 to 13.
Additionally, GVSU's Jorge Ruiz and Patricio Sepulveda advanced to the quarterfinals in the top doubles bracket. Ignasi Garros and Denys Zamaraiev reached the semifinals in the doubles Flight B bracket.
In singles competition, Denys Zamaraiev advanced to the quarterfinal round in the top singles bracket with a weekend record of 3-1. Jorge Ruiz went 4-1 and made it to the semifinals in singles Flight B.
