The Grand Valley State women's soccer team, ranked No. 2, ended their match against Purdue Northwest with a 1-1 draw on Friday afternoon at the GVSU Soccer Field. This result brings the Lakers to a season record of 6-0-3 and 3-0-2 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).
Purdue Northwest scored first in the fifth minute, securing an early lead. Despite multiple scoring opportunities from Grand Valley State in the first half, Purdue's defense maintained their advantage with two team saves and one save by the goalkeeper.
In the second half, GVSU's Alli French attempted two shots on goal that were narrowly saved by the opposing goalkeeper. Amanda Palmer also made an attempt in the 64th minute.
The equalizing goal for GVSU came in the 72nd minute when Alex Williams' shot hit off the crossbar, allowing Sarah Fromm to capitalize on the rebound with a header over Purdue's keeper. This marked Fromm's first collegiate goal.
Grand Valley State dominated offensively with 19 shots compared to Purdue Northwest's four and led in shots on goal with seven against one. The Lakers also earned seven corner kicks while limiting Purdue to just one.
Alex Williams played all 90 minutes, contributing four shots and her first assist of this season. Sarah Fromm scored once from two shots on target. Kennedy Bearden had three attempts, including one on target during her 64 minutes of play. Amanda Palmer recorded three shots within her 20-minute appearance. Kacy Lauer and Daan Louwerse were also present for all game minutes. Goalkeeper Cailynn Junk improved her record to 5-0-3 following this match.
