The Grand Valley State University (GVSU) women's soccer team, ranked No. 24, is set to host two Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) matches this weekend. The Lakers will face Roosevelt on Friday at 3:00 PM and Saginaw Valley State on Sunday at 2:00 PM.
Currently holding a record of 7-1-3, GVSU stands second in the GLIAC with a conference record of 4-1-2. The team has outscored opponents 14-5 and achieved six clean sheets this season. They recently secured a 2-0 victory over Parkside, completing a season sweep against the Rangers.
Kennedy Bearden and Emma Chudik lead the team's scoring efforts with three goals and one assist each, totaling seven points apiece. Bearden also leads in game-winning goals with two and has taken 25 shots. Ryann Fetty and Sarah Fromm have contributed two goals and one assist each for five points. Taylor Reid tops the assists chart with three for the season. Goalkeeper Cailynn Junk was named GLIAC defensive player of the week following her fourth shutout in the win against Parkside, boasting a record of 6-1-3 with 24 saves.
Roosevelt is experiencing its inaugural GLIAC season with a conference record of 0-5-2 and an overall record of 0-6-4. They are coming off a scoreless draw at Purdue Northwest and a loss to Davenport last weekend. Paola Macias leads Roosevelt's scoring with two goals and one assist for five points, while goalkeeper Roxy Herrera leads the conference in saves with 62.
Saginaw Valley State enters this weekend's games holding an overall record of 4-4-3 and a GLIAC mark of 2-2-3. The previous match between GVSU and Saginaw Valley ended in a scoreless draw earlier this season. Last weekend, Saginaw Valley tied both Davenport and Parkside by scores of 1-1.
Rileigh Garbarz is leading Saginaw Valley's offense with three goals and three assists for nine points this season. Lauryn Fracassi has recorded three goals plus one assist for seven points, including two game-winning goals for SVSU.
