After the 2024 season opener at the Spartan Invite, seniors Caleb Futter and Abby Olson from Grand Valley State University were recognized as GLIAC Cross Country Athletes of the Week.

The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) made the announcement on Monday afternoon, noting that both awards went to Grand Valley athletes. The selections are determined by coaches within the conference.

Caleb Futter earned the title of GLIAC Cross Country's Male Athlete of the Week following his performance at Michigan State University's Spartan Invitational. He finished first in the men's collegiate 8k race with a time of 24:42.3, maintaining a pace of 4:58 per mile. This was a significant improvement for Futter, who had placed 17th in last year's event with a time of 25:10.8.

Abby Olson, who transferred from Butler University, was named GLIAC Cross Country Female Athlete of the Week after finishing second in her first race as a Laker at the same invitational. She completed her run with a pace of 5:46 per mile and a final time of 21:32.1, contributing to Grand Valley's women's team securing second place overall at the event.
