GVSU secures third consecutive victory at Doc Spragg Invitational

The Grand Valley State University (GVSU) men's golf team secured victory at the Doc Spragg Invitational in Findlay, Ohio, marking their third consecutive win at this event. The Lakers maintained their lead throughout the competition and finished with three golfers among the top five.

GVSU won the tournament by a margin of 22 strokes, finishing with a score of -24. They concluded with a final round score of 281 (-7). Ashland University was the runner-up, completing the tournament at two under par. The University of Findlay placed third at two over par, while Wayne State came fourth at four over. The University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL) tied with Palm Beach Atlantic for fifth place, both finishing at +12.

Drew Coble achieved his first victory of the fall season by leading the field by two strokes. He completed his final round with a score of 71 (-1), including an eagle and two birdies, to finish at -12 overall. Manuel Cue Vargas and Charlie Cooley both tied for fourth place, each ending with scores of four under par. Cue had his best performance in the tournament during his final round, shooting a 66 (-6) and climbing 27 spots on the leaderboard. Cooley recorded a final round score of 73 (+1) with three birdies. Bryce Wheeler made four birdies in his final round to tie for sixth place at two under par. Jan Eckhard ended in a tie for 37th place at +6 after shooting a final round score of 75 (+3).

The GVSU team will participate in their last tournament of the fall season next week at the Nemacolin Intercollegiate in Pennsylvania.
