GVSU competes closely as fall golf season concludes

The GVSU men's golf team is competing in their final tournament of the fall season at the Intercollegiate at Nemacolin in Farmington, Pennsylvania. After the second round was halted due to darkness, GVSU is just one stroke behind the lead.

North Georgia ended the day in first place at eight under par after a strong second round performance, carding a -13 before play was stopped. GVSU and UMSL are tied for second place at seven under par. The Lakers shot -3 in the first round and were -4 in the second round when play was suspended. Host Findlay holds fourth place at +4, while Hillsdale and Ashland are tied for fifth at +11.

Manuel Cue Vargas leads individually after day one with 10 birdies, finishing at -7. Bryce Wheeler is tied for sixth place with six birdies and a score of two under par. Drew Coble also made six birdies to tie for 11th place at one under par. Charlie Cooley sank three birdies to end up tied for 29th place at seven over par, while Jan Eckhard is tied for 33rd with six birdies.

The Lakers will complete their second round tomorrow and proceed to play the third round to conclude the tournament.
