GVSU men's golf team wins Intercollegiate title; Manuel Cue Vargas shines

The GVSU men's golf team concluded their fall schedule by securing a victory at the Intercollegiate at Nemacolin in Farmington, Pennsylvania. The Lakers achieved an 11-stroke lead over their competitors, with Manuel Cue Vargas earning his first collegiate win.

The Lakers, ranked fourth, finished the tournament with a final round score of 286 (-2), culminating in a total of -12. UMSL followed in second place at -1, trailing the Lakers by 11 strokes. North Georgia secured third place with a score of seven over par, narrowly ahead of Findlay in fourth. Ashland completed the top five at +26.

Manuel Cue Vargas delivered an impressive performance throughout the tournament, posting rounds of 70 (-2), 66 (-6), and 68 (-4) to finish twelve under par for the event. His final round included four birdies and an eagle. Drew Coble also performed well, finishing third at -5 after carding a final round of 70 (-2) with five birdies.

Bryce Wheeler tied for seventh place with a score of one over par after sinking two birdies and an eagle during his final round of 76 (+4). Charlie Cooley ended tied for 18th at +6, having recorded two eagles and a birdie in his even-par round of 72. Jan Eckhard completed his final round with an 81 (+9), including one birdie, tying for 38th place at +18.
