The Grand Valley State University (GVSU) women's golf team secured a spot in the GLIAC Championship after an impressive performance on the second day of the tournament. The Lakers emerged as the top seed in match play semifinals by winning the stroke play portion. Olivia Stoll distinguished herself as the Individual GLIAC Medalist, finishing as the leading player. The team subsequently defeated Ferris State in the semifinals, advancing to Sunday's championship match.
In stroke play, GVSU finished ahead of Davenport with a final round score of 300 (+12), concluding at +28 over two rounds. Davenport followed at +40 after scoring 316 in their second round. Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU) placed third at +44, and Ferris State was fourth at +46. These four teams advanced to the afternoon's match play semifinals, where GVSU overcame Ferris State 4-1 and Davenport triumphed over SVSU 3-2.
During the second round, Stoll shot a 70 (-2), ending even par with four birdies to claim her individual title. Julia Sanchez secured second place at +3 with a round of 72 and two birdies. Paula Badino scored a 78 (+6), tying for 15th place; Megan Miron ended tied for 18th with an 81 (+9); and Rachael Krieger was tied for 26th following her round of 80 (+8).
In semifinal matches, Stoll, Miron, Sanchez, and Krieger all won their contests. Stoll achieved victory by one stroke with her score of 76; Miron posted a winning score of 74; Sanchez had a team-low round of 73; and Krieger completed her match with a score of 75. Badino lost her matchup by seven strokes after shooting a round of 77.
The Lakers are set to begin their championship match against Davenport tomorrow at 10:00 am.
