GVSU women's basketball hosts GLIAC semifinals against Parkside

The Grand Valley State University (GVSU) women's basketball team is preparing to host the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) semifinals and championship game this weekend. The Lakers will face Parkside on Saturday afternoon, with the winner advancing to Sunday's championship game.

GVSU secured their place in the semifinals by defeating Purdue Northwest 65-54 in Wednesday's quarterfinal match. Nicole Kamin led the Lakers with 18 points, three steals, and two blocks. Rylie Bisballe achieved her third double-double of the season with 13 points and 14 rebounds.

In their previous encounters this season, GVSU won both games against Parkside. They triumphed 89-57 on Sawyer's Day, with four players scoring in double figures. Bisballe contributed 19 points and nine rebounds, while Kamin and Abrie Cabana each scored 17 points. Paige Vanstee added 12 points and nine rebounds. In a tighter rematch in Kenosha, GVSU made a second-half comeback to win 76-63. Bisballe and Vanstee each scored 24 points, while Kamin added 11 points and seven rebounds.

Parkside entered the tournament as the fifth seed after defeating Michigan Tech 51-49 in the quarterfinals. The Rangers finished their season with a record of 16-11 overall and went 10-8 in league play. Three players received all-league honors: Cassidy Arni was named Freshman of the Year, while Paty Gallasova and Sheridan Flauger were selected for the second team. Both Gallasova and Flauger are leading scorers for Parkside, averaging double digits.
