The Grand Valley State University (GVSU) women's basketball team has secured a place in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championship after defeating Parkside with a score of 72-59. The victory extends the Lakers' winning streak to 13 games, bringing their overall record to 28-2.
In the opening quarter, GVSU quickly established a lead of 12-4, thanks to Nicole Kamin's five points. Parkside managed to close the gap to two points at 16-14 with two minutes left in the quarter. However, GVSU ended the period on a 7-2 run, leading 23-16.
Parkside started strong in the second quarter with a 10-0 run, taking their first lead at 26-23. Macy Bisballe tied the game with a three-pointer, sparking a 10-point run by GVSU. By halftime, GVSU led by eight points at 40-32.
The third quarter saw Hadley Miller opening with a three-pointer that launched a 7-0 run for GVSU, expanding their lead to 47-32. Although Parkside attempted to rally back with an 8-2 run by the end of the third quarter, they still trailed by double digits at 57-43.
In the final quarter, Parkside narrowed their deficit to ten points but couldn't get closer as GVSU capitalized on free throws—hitting eleven—to secure their win and advance to the championship game.
Rylie Bisballe was instrumental for GVSU with nearly achieving a double-double; she scored 19 points and collected eight rebounds. Hadley Miller contributed twelve points and five rebounds while Nicole Kamin added eleven points and six rebounds. Paige Vanstee also supported with nine points and six rebounds. Defensively, GVSU blocked ten shots during the match.
Looking ahead, GVSU is set to face Northern Michigan in Sunday's GLIAC Championship game scheduled for afternoon play at three o'clock.
