The Grand Valley State University (GVSU) women's basketball team has advanced to the Midwest Region Championship game after defeating Northern Michigan University (NMU) in the semifinals. This marks the fourth victory for GVSU over NMU this season, with a final score of 72-44.

In the initial stages of the game, both teams were evenly matched, exchanging baskets during the first seven minutes. However, GVSU managed to pull ahead with a 14-9 lead by the end of the first quarter. Key plays included a three-pointer from Paige Vanstee and a jumper from Nicole Kamin, which extended their lead to double digits at 19-9.

Despite NMU's efforts to close the gap before halftime, Avery Zeinstra's buzzer-beating floater secured a 33-22 advantage for GVSU at the break. The Wildcats attempted to reduce their deficit early in the second half but were unable to sustain momentum as GVSU maintained control.

GVSU dominated in the fourth quarter, outscoring NMU 20-5 and securing their place in the championship game. Rylie Bisballe contributed significantly during this period with six points as part of a decisive 12-0 run.

Nicole Kamin led GVSU with 20 points, tying her career-high performance while also recording four rebounds and three blocks. Rylie Bisballe added 19 points and seven rebounds. Paige Vanstee scored 11 points alongside four rebounds.

Looking ahead, GVSU will face Ferris State in the Midwest Regional Championship game scheduled for Monday evening at 7:00 PM in the Fieldhouse.
