Grand Valley State University's wrestling team is preparing to host Rochester in a dual meet scheduled for Wednesday, January 24 at 7 p.m. The event will take place at the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena. The Lakers have shown significant progress since reinstating their men's wrestling program to collegiate varsity status after a 32-year hiatus. With a record of 9-4 in dual meets, the team has climbed national rankings rapidly.
GVSU's performance includes victories over two top-eight teams, and they boast four wrestlers ranked among the top 12 nationally. Freshman Aaron Lucio is ranked #9 at 125 pounds with a record of 10-6. Sophomore Chris Donathan remains undefeated with a record of 15-0 and is ranked #4 at 149 pounds. Josh Kenny, also a sophomore, holds the #2 spot at 174 pounds with a record of 19-4. Additionally, sophomore Wyatt Miller ranks #9 at 197 pounds with a record of 19-2.
The lineup for Thursday's match includes Aaron Lucio (#9) competing at 125 pounds, Collin Twigg (13-8) at 133 pounds, Jak Keller (11-13) at 141 pounds, Chris Donathan (#4) at 149 pounds, Caden Jacobs (9-14) at 157 pounds, Trammel Robinson (21-11) at 165 pounds, Josh Kenny (#2) at 174 pounds, Seth Konynenbelt (20-10) at 184 pounds, Wyatt Miller (#9) at 197 pounds, and Owen Hawley (15-8) as heavyweight.
