The Grand Valley State University (GVSU) wrestling team, ranked 11th nationally, is preparing for a significant challenge this weekend. The Lakers are set to compete at the Greyhound Duals on Saturday, February 3rd. Their schedule includes matches against Quincy at 2 p.m., followed by encounters with two top-10 teams: McKendree and Indianapolis, both ranked ninth. These events will be held at Nicoson Hall on the campus of the University of Indianapolis.
McKendree and Indianapolis boast lineups filled with multiple ranked wrestlers. GVSU will also present a strong lineup featuring four ranked athletes. In the 125-pound category, Christian Mejia from McKendree holds the number four ranking, while GVSU's Aaron Lucio is ranked ninth. Ryan Ripplinger from McKendree is the sole wrestler ranked at 133 pounds, standing at number ten. Ronan Schuelke from McKendree ranks third in the 141-pound category, with Blake Mulkey following as sixth. The 174-pound division will feature three ranked competitors: Josh Kenny from GVSU at second place, Trery Sizemore from Indianapolis at fifth place, and Matt Ortiz from McKendree at eleventh place. Finally, Derek Blubaugh from Indianapolis will face off against Wyatt Miller from GVSU in a contest where Miller holds the ninth spot.
