The Grand Valley State men's tennis team faced a challenging match against Tiffin, resulting in a 5-2 defeat on Friday afternoon. This loss brings the Lakers' season record to 1-3.
Tiffin secured the doubles point with victories at both No. 1 and No. 2 doubles positions. The pair of Chimo Minguez and Jorge Ruiz managed to earn a win for Grand Valley State with a 7-5 score at No. 3 doubles. However, Sean Miller and Victor Lopes were narrowly defeated in a close 6-7 match at the top doubles position, while Freddy Cossio and Lucas Gonzalez fell 2-6 at No. 2 doubles.
In singles play, Denys Zamaraiev achieved a hard-fought victory with scores of 6-7, 7-6, and 6-2 at No. 2 singles. Jorge Ruiz also contributed to the team's efforts by winning his match in straight sets, scoring 6-3, 6-1 at No. 5 singles. Despite their efforts, Chimo Minguez lost after three sets with scores of 7-5, 2-6, and 2-6 at No. 4 singles, while Victor Lopes was defeated in another three-set battle with scores of 7-6, 3-6, and 2-6 at No. 3 singles.
The Lakers are set to continue their road trip with a match against Findlay on Saturday in Findlay, Ohio. The competition is scheduled to begin at 4:00 PM.
