The Grand Valley State men's tennis team faced a setback on Saturday, February 3, as they were defeated by Indianapolis with a score of 5-2. This result brings the Lakers' season record to 1-2.
Indianapolis secured the doubles point by winning matches at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles positions. Jorge Ruiz and Chimo Minguez managed to secure a win for the Lakers at No. 3 doubles with a score of 7-5. However, Sean Miller and Victor Lopes narrowly lost their match at the top doubles position with a score of 5-7, while Freddy Cossio and Lucas Gonzalez fell short in their match at No. 2 doubles with a score of 3-6.
In singles competition, Victor Lopes achieved a hard-fought victory in three sets at No. 4 singles, finishing with scores of 2-6, 7-5, and 7-6. Jorge Ruiz also contributed to the team's efforts by winning his match in straight sets at No. 6 singles with scores of 7-5 and 7-5. Denys Zamaraiev was involved in a closely contested match but ultimately lost at No. 2 singles with scores of 3-6, 6-3, and 4-6. Chimo Minguez also faced defeat in his singles match at No. 5 with scores of 4-6 and 5-7.
Looking ahead, the Lakers are set to continue their season on the road next weekend as they travel to face Tiffin on Friday, February 9, at 11:00 AM before concluding their weekend against Findlay on Saturday, February 10, at 4:00 PM.
