The Grand Valley State University wrestling team, ranked 16th nationally, is set to compete in the NCAA Super Region 3 duals on Saturday, January 13, at Tiffin University. The Lakers will face off against Thomas More at 10 a.m., Davenport at noon, and Lake Erie College, ranked fifth nationally, at 2 p.m.
The Lakers boast a strong lineup with four wrestlers holding national rankings and seven appearing in regional standings. Freshman Aaron Lucio competes in the 125-pound category and is ranked first regionally and eighth nationally. Fellow freshman Collin Twigg ranks sixth regionally in the 133-pound category. Sophomore Chris Donathan is undefeated this season with a record of 15-0; he holds the top regional spot and third place nationally in the 149-pound class. Freshman Trammel Robinson ranks third regionally in the 165-pound category. Sophomore Josh Kenny is also first regionally and third nationally in the 174-pound division. Senior Seth Konynenbelt stands fourth regionally in the 184-pound category, while sophomore Wyatt Miller ranks first regionally and twelfth nationally in the 197-pound division.
Lake Erie College will feature five notable wrestlers, including top-ranked James Penfold at 174 pounds and Christian Small, who is fourth at 149 pounds. Corey Gamet holds tenth place at 141 pounds, Ryan Wehner is eleventh at 133 pounds, and Jack Haskin ranks third at 157 pounds.
