The Grand Valley State men's tennis team secured a 4-1 victory over Southwest Baptist in a nonconference match held at the Premier Athletic and Tennis Club. This win marks their fifth consecutive victory, bringing their season record to 11-4.
In doubles competition, the Lakers clinched the point with successes in both the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. Chimo Minguez and Jorge Ruiz achieved a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles, while Stephen Claassen and Lawrence Ivanov posted a 6-1 victory at No. 3 doubles.
For singles matches, Victor Lopes earned a straight-set win of 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2 singles. Jorge Ruiz also secured a straight-set victory with scores of 6-0, 6-3 at No. 3 singles, followed by Chimo Minguez who won his match with scores of 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4 singles. Deny Zamaraiev faced a challenging match and lost with scores of 5-7, 5-7 in the top singles position.
Looking ahead, the Lakers are set to play against GLIAC rival Ferris State on the road tomorrow morning in Big Rapids, with the first serve scheduled for 10:00 AM.
