GVSU wrestling team falls to Notre Dame and West Liberty

Grand Valley State University's wrestling team faced challenges at the Notre Dame College Tri Dual, losing both matches. The Lakers were defeated 28-24 by Notre Dame College and 49-0 by West Liberty, which is ranked second. GVSU was missing four nationally ranked wrestlers due to injury or illness.

The Lakers will compete again on January 24 at the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena against Rochester College, with the first match starting at 7 p.m.

In the match against Notre Dame College, notable results included Jake Arnold of Notre Dame pinning Luca Conflitti of Grand Valley State in 5:21. Logan Klinge and Jak Keller from Grand Valley State won their matches by forfeit. Other key performances saw Parker Moore of Notre Dame defeating Michael Merrit with a decision score of 9-4, and Matthew Kaufmann of Notre Dame pinning Gustavo DeLima in 2:27.

West Liberty secured a dominant victory over Grand Valley State with several standout performances. Alexander Crane pinned Luca Conflitti in 6:49, while Matt Englehardt won a major decision over Logan Klinge with an 18-5 score. Nico Taddy achieved a technical fall over Michael Merrit, and Ty McGeary pinned Seth Konynenbelt in 4:35.
