The Grand Valley State men's tennis team experienced a setback on Saturday, March 30, as they were defeated 7-0 by Ferris State in Big Rapids. This loss brings the Lakers' season record to 11-5.
Ferris State secured the doubles point with victories at both No. 1 and No. 2 doubles positions. Stephen Claassen and Lawrence Ivanov managed a win at No. 3 singles with a score of 6-2. However, Victor Lopes and Freddy Cossio faced a defeat at the top doubles position, losing 6-3, while Jorge Ruiz and Chimo Minguez lost their match at No. 2 doubles with a score of 6-4.
In singles matches, Denys Zamaraiev fought hard but ultimately lost in three sets with scores of 5-7, 6-1, and 3-6 at the top singles position. Lucas Gonzalez also played three sets but was defeated with scores of 6-2, 0-6, and 4-6 at No. 2 singles. Victor Lopes was unable to overcome his opponent at No. 3 singles, losing with scores of 4-6 and 2-6. Chimo Minguez faced defeat at No. 4 singles with scores of 5-7 and 1-6. At No.5 singles, Jorge Ruiz lost his match with scores of 2-6 and 4-6, while Stephen Claassen fell short at No.6 singles with scores of 1-6 and3 -6.
The Lakers are scheduled to return to action on April12th when they will travel to Detroit to face Wayne State; the first serve is set for10:00 AM.
