Grand Valley State wrestling splits matches at Ashland Tri meet

Grand Valley State University's wrestling team concluded its regular season with a split at the Ashland Tri meet. The Lakers faced a narrow 24-22 defeat against Ashland, ranked 19th, but bounced back to secure a 25-15 victory over Glenville State, ranked 23rd. This season marked GVSU's return to varsity competition after a 32-year hiatus, finishing with a dual meet record of 13-7 and competing in eight matches against top 25 teams.

In the match against Ashland, GVSU initially led with victories in the early rounds but was unable to maintain their advantage as Ashland secured three bonus point wins in the final six matches. The detailed results were as follows:

- At 125 pounds, Luke Acuna (AU) defeated Aaron Lucio (GV) by major decision.

- Collin Twigg (GV) pinned Nicholas Barber (AU) at 133 pounds.

- Jak Keller (GV) pinned Jeremiah McKee (AU) at 141 pounds.

- Chris Donathan (GV), ranked fourth, won by decision over Hayden Kuhn (AU) at 149 pounds.

- Drew Wiechers (AU) achieved a technical fall over Caden Jacobs (GV) at 157 pounds.

- Nick Carbone (AU) defeated Trammel Robinson (GV) by decision at 165 pounds.

- Josh Kenny (GV), ranked second, won by major decision over Nate Barrett (AU) at 174 pounds.

- Daniel Beemer (AU) pinned Seth Konynenbelt (GV) at 184 pounds.

- Wyatt Miller (GV), ranked ninth, won by decision over Walker Uhl (AU) at 197 pounds.

- Wyatt Bailey (AU) pinned Owen Hawley (GV).

Against Glenville State, GVSU trailed early but rallied with three bonus point wins in four matches. Key performances included:

- Aaron Lucio (#9 GV) defeating Hunter Ross (#GS).

- Devin Easton (#GV)'s victory over Collin Twigg (#GS).

- Chris Donathan (#4 GV)'s win against Ethan Hardy (#GS).

- Trammel Robinson's pinning of Cam Barr (#GS).

GVSU will now prepare for NCAA Regional action.
