Grand Valley State men’s tennis defeats Concordia Irvine as road trip concludes

The Grand Valley State men's tennis team secured a 6-1 victory over Concordia Irvine, concluding their road trip in California. This win on Thursday improved the Lakers' season record to 8-4.

In doubles play, GVSU clinched the point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 positions. Chimo Minguez and Jorge Ruiz achieved a 6-3 victory at No. 2 doubles, while Stephen Claassen and Lawrence Ivanov won 6-2 at No. 3 doubles.

During singles matches, Denys Zamaraiev emerged victorious in a challenging three-set match at the top singles position with scores of 6-2, 5-7, and 7-6. Sean Miller claimed a win at No. 2 singles after his opponent withdrew, finishing with a score of 6-2. Victor Lopes came back from an initial set loss to win his match at No. 3 singles with scores of 3-6, 6-2, and 6-1. Stephen Claassen delivered a straight-set victory of 6-2, 6-4 at No. 5 singles, while Ignasi Garros dominated his opponent with a decisive scoreline of 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6 singles. At No.4 singles, Chimo Minguez faced defeat in a closely contested three-set match with scores of 5-7, 6-4, and finally losing the last set by just two games.

Looking ahead to their conference schedule in the GLIAC (Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference), the Lakers are set to compete against Purdue Northwest on Friday, March 22nd in Hammond, Indiana; matches will commence at eleven o'clock in the morning.
