The Grand Valley State men's tennis team faced a narrow defeat against McKendree, with a final score of 4-3, in their spring schedule opener on Friday night. This match marked the Lakers' second game of the season, leaving them with a record of 1-1, while McKendree secured their first win of the season.

In doubles competition, McKendree gained an advantage by winning matches at both No. 1 and No. 3 positions. Freddy Cossio and Lucas Gonzalez emerged victorious with a 6-3 result at No. 3 doubles. Meanwhile, Sean Miller and Victor Lopes faced a challenging match but ultimately lost 7-5 at the top doubles position. Stephen Claassen and Lawrence Ivanov also fell short in their effort with a 6-3 loss at No. 3 doubles.

On the singles court, Denys Zamaraiev achieved a decisive victory with scores of 6-0 and 6-2 at No. 3 singles. Victor Lopes followed suit with a straight-set win of 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4 singles. Chimo Minguez contributed to the team's performance by securing another straight-set victory, finishing his match with scores of 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5 singles.

Looking ahead, the Lakers are set to conclude their weekend matches on Saturday when they play against Indianapolis on the road. The match is scheduled to begin at 3:00 PM.
