The Grand Valley State men's tennis team secured a decisive 7-0 victory against Walsh on Friday at the Premier Athletic and Tennis Club. This win improved the Lakers' season record to 4-3 and extended their winning streak to three matches.
In doubles play, GVSU won the point with victories at No. 2 and No. 3 positions. Chimo Minguez and Jorge Ruiz achieved a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles, while Stephen Claassen and Lawrence Ivanov delivered a strong performance with a 6-0 win at No. 3 doubles. Sean Miller and Victor Lopes faced a challenging match, resulting in a narrow 3-6 loss.
In singles competition, Denys Zamaraiev earned a 6-2, 7-5 victory at the top singles position. Victor Lopes secured a hard-fought three-set win with scores of 6-4, 0-6, 7-5 at No. 2 singles. Jorge Ruiz also emerged victorious in three sets, winning 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 at No. 3 singles. Chimo Minguez won in straight sets with scores of 7-5, 7-5 at No. 4 singles. Stephen Claassen added another win for the Lakers with a scoreline of 6-0, 7-5 at No. 5 singles, while Ignasi Garros completed the sweep with a comeback three-set win of 3-6, 7-6, 6-0 at No. 6 singles.
The Lakers are scheduled to return to action next week when they host Lewis on Friday and Northwood on Saturday at the Premier Athletic and Tennis Club.
