Grand Valley State triumphs over Davenport in men's tennis

The Grand Valley State men's tennis team secured a 6-1 victory over Davenport on Saturday evening, advancing to 2-0 in GLIAC play and improving their season record to 10-4.

The Lakers dominated the doubles matches, securing the doubles point. Sean Miller and Victor Lopes won 6-4 at the top doubles position. Chimo Minguez and Jorge Ruiz achieved a 6-1 victory at No. 2 doubles, while Lawrence Ivanov and Stephen Claassen added a 6-2 win at No. 3 singles.

In singles competition, Denys Zamaraiev earned a straight-set win with scores of 6-3, 6-2 at the top singles spot. Sean Miller overcame his opponent in three sets with scores of 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2 singles. Victor Lopes recorded a straight-set win with scores of 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3 singles. Chimo Minguez posted a close straight-set win with scores of 7-5, 7-6 at No. 4 singles. Jorge Ruiz claimed a decisive victory with scores of 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5 singles. Stephen Claassen faced a challenging match and lost in three sets with scores of 4-6, 7-6, and an extended third set score of 8-10 at No. 6 singles.

Looking ahead, the Lakers are set to host Southwest Baptist for a nonconference match on Friday, March 29th at Premier Athletic and Tennis Club starting at noon. They will then travel to compete against Ferris State on Saturday, March 30th at ten in the morning.
