Lakers aim to secure top-eight finish heading into NCAA golf championships' third round

The Grand Valley State University (GVSU) men's golf team concluded the second day of the NCAA Championships tied for seventh place. As they prepare for the third round, GVSU aims to maintain their position in the top eight to advance to Saturday's quarterfinals.

Oklahoma Christian currently leads with a nine-stroke advantage at 16 under par. West Florida and Colorado Christian share second place at nine under, while Central Oklahoma follows in fourth at five under. West Texas A&M holds fifth place at two under. GVSU is tied with Wingate at one over par.

Leading the Lakers is Manuel Cue Vargas, who finished two under after shooting a 75 (+4) today with one birdie. Drew Coble is tied for 21st place at one under following his round of 73 (+2), which included four birdies. Nick Krueger made significant progress by sinking six birdies during his even-par round of 71, placing him in a tie for 54th. Charlie Cooley also shot an even-par 71 with one birdie, tying for 65th at four over par. Bryce Wheeler ended his day with a score of 76 (+5) and two birdies, resulting in a tie for 76th.

In tomorrow's final round of stroke play, GVSU will be paired with Wingate and Henderson State, beginning their tee-off from 11:10 AM.
