The GVSU men's golf team is preparing to commence its postseason journey at the GLIAC Championships in Augusta, Michigan. The Lakers, who hold the title of reigning league champions, will compete in both stroke and match play.

This year's championship format has been adjusted. The event begins on Friday with 18 holes of stroke play and continues on Saturday morning with another 18 holes. The top four teams will advance to the match play semifinals on Saturday afternoon, leading to Sunday's match play finals where the GLIAC title will be awarded. The tournament is hosted at Stroatin Brae Golf Club, part of Gull Lake View Golf Club and Resort, featuring a course that spans 6,742 yards with a par of 71.

GVSU enters as the top-ranked team in the conference and is currently ranked fourth nationally. This spring, they have claimed victory in three tournaments and defeated North Georgia in a one-day match play event. Notably, three players from GVSU are ranked within the top-100 nationally: Drew Coble is third, Nick Krueger is 69th, and Manuel Cue Vargas is 93rd. Coble was honored as SwingU's National Golfer of the Month for March after being named GLIAC Golfer of the Week twice this spring for winning two events. Recently, GVSU won the Ken Partridge Invitational with Coble and Bryce Wheeler tying for third place—a career-best finish for Wheeler that earned him his first conference golfer of the week award.

On Friday's first round, GVSU will pair up with Ferris State and Wayne State starting at hole one at 10:45 am. The lineup includes Coble, Krueger, Cue Vargas, Charlie Cooley, and Wheeler—an unchanged roster throughout spring competitions.

The Lakers aim to secure their tenth GLIAC title in program history under new head coach Gareth Lappin.
