GVSU men's golf leads Ken Partridge Invitational after opening round

The GVSU men's golf team has taken an early lead at the Ken Partridge Invitational, marking their final regular season tournament. After the first round, the Lakers are ahead of 18 competing teams by six strokes.

The Lakers achieved a score of 295 (+7), placing them in the lead. UMSL and host Indianapolis are tied for second place with scores of 301 (+13). Missouri S&T follows in fourth position with a score of 303 (+15), while Findlay rounds out the top five with a score of 305 (+17).

Bryce Wheeler is leading for GVSU, having shot a round of 70 (-2) and making four birdies, putting him in a tie for first place. Drew Coble and Charlie Cooley are both tied for fifth place at one over par, each shooting rounds of 73. Coble made three birdies during his round, while Cooley made one. Nick Krueger and Manuel Cue Vargas are tied for 43rd place at seven over par, each carding rounds of 79.

The competition continues tomorrow with the second round, concluding on Tuesday.
