Grand Valley State University has seen two of its senior athletes, offensive lineman Garrett Carroll and linebacker Abe Swanson, earn the prestigious Conference Commissioner's Association First-Team All-America honors. Their achievements are accompanied by fellow seniors Jordan Davis and Christian McCarroll being named to the CCA All-America Second-Team.
Carroll and Davis played pivotal roles on the left side of an offensive line that significantly contributed to their team's national standing in various offensive metrics. The Lakers' offense ranked high in scoring with 46.9 points per game, rushing at 235.6 yards per game, total offense with 446.4 yards per game, passing efficiency rated at 162.85, along with notable figures in yards per rush and play. Carroll achieved a blocking/protection efficiency of 94.7 percent over the season.
On the defensive front, McCarroll excelled among GLIAC defensive linemen with a record of 67 tackles and led in tackles for loss with 15 while ranking second in quarterback sacks totaling eight for the season. His efforts were crucial for a defense that topped national rankings in quarterback sacks.
Swanson's performance earned him consensus First-Team All-American recognition for a second consecutive year after he recorded a team-high of 90 tackles during the season despite limited playtime due to missing parts of several games. He was instrumental in maintaining one of the nation's top defenses which allowed only 16.1 points per game on average.
Grand Valley State finished their season strong with an impressive record of 11-2, securing back-to-back GLIAC Championships from 2022 to 2023 and reaching the NCAA quarterfinals for two consecutive years.
