GVSU men's golf team competes strongly in Copperhead Championship

The GVSU men's golf team is participating in their final tournament of the fall season at the Copperhead Championship in Palm Harbor, Florida. After completing two rounds, the Lakers are positioned fourth among a competitive field that includes 10 top-25 teams, with seven ranked in the top 10.

Currently leading the tournament is Lee, who stands at four under par after shooting two rounds of 282. Host team West Florida trails by two strokes with rounds of 280 and 286. Tampa holds third place at two over par, having carded rounds of 281 and 289. The Lakers follow closely in fourth place at five over par with scores of 290 and 283 for their first two rounds. Florida Southern completes the top five, one stroke behind GVSU with rounds of 291 and 283.

Charlie Cooley leads the Lakers' efforts, tying for fifth place at two under par after posting scores of 71 and 69. Cooley recorded four birdies in his first round and added two more in his second round. Nick Krueger is tied for 15th place at even par, achieving ten birdies across his rounds of 75 and an impressive second-round score of 67. Manuel Cue Vargas is tied for 23rd at two over par with scores of 71 and 73, including three birdies and an eagle. Drew Coble finds himself tied for 42nd place at five over par after consistent rounds of 73 and 74, making two birdies per round. Alex Jordan sits tied for 88th position with a score of +18 following rounds of 85 and a significantly improved second round score of 75.

The final round will take place tomorrow morning, starting at approximately half-past eight.
