Grand Valley State University announced today that two of its senior football players, Garrett Carroll and Christian McCarroll, have been recognized as All-Americans by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA). Carroll, an offensive lineman, received first-team honors for his performance in anchoring the left side of a highly effective offensive line. This line contributed to the Lakers' offense being among national leaders in several categories, including scoring and rushing. Carroll's blocking efficiency was rated at 94.7 percent for the season.
Christian McCarroll, a defensive lineman, earned second-team recognition. He led all GLIAC defensive linemen with 67 tackles and topped the conference in tackles for loss with 15.0. Despite missing parts of several games, McCarroll played a pivotal role in a defense that led the nation in quarterback sacks and ranked seventh in tackles for loss.
The Grand Valley State Lakers finished their season with an 11-2 record, winning the GLIAC Championship for the second consecutive year and reaching the NCAA quarterfinals once again.
