The Grand Valley State men's basketball team secured a victory over Lake Superior State with a score of 93-75 on senior day. This win, which took place on Saturday, Feb. 24, ended LSSU's seven-game winning streak and improved GVSU's record to 9-7 in the GLIAC and 12-14 overall.
Trevon Gunter was the standout player for the Lakers, achieving a career-high of 29 points on 9-13 shooting and collecting three rebounds. He successfully made five three-pointers and was perfect from the free throw line, going 6-6. William Dunn contributed with 17 points for the third consecutive game and grabbed six rebounds, shooting 6-10 from the field and making five out of nine three-point attempts. Mason Docks added 15 points with three successful three-pointers, while Ethan Alderink scored 11 points on efficient shooting.
GVSU displayed strong performance statistics by shooting 53% from the field and making nearly all their free throws with an accuracy of 11-12. The team also achieved a season-high by sinking 16 three-pointers at a rate of 48% from beyond the arc. Additionally, they distributed the ball well with a total of 16 assists and dominated fast break opportunities by outscoring Lake Superior State by a margin of 20-7.
Lake Superior State initially took an early lead at the beginning of the game but was soon overtaken by GVSU's impressive response—a decisive run that put them ahead significantly. The Lakers continued to build their advantage throughout both halves of play.
In upcoming matches, GVSU will conclude their regular season with away games against Northern Michigan in Marquette on Thursday, Feb. 29 at 7:30 PM and Michigan Tech in Houghton on Saturday, Mar.2 at 2:00 PM. Both games are set to be streamed live via FloSports.
